Santitto picks up first Big Ten win.
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's tennis team picked up a point from sophomore Juliet Santitto, but 31st-ranked Wisconsin came away with a 4-1 victory on Friday in the Ducks' penultimate home match at the UO Student Tennis Center.
Â
Santitto slid into UO's line up on court six and turned in a straight-set victory over the Badgers' Kaja Jacobson, 6-2, 6-3. The win marked the sophomore's first Big Ten win of the season and improved her dual record to 2-0 overall.
Â
Wisconsin's singles lineup featured a pair of top-60 players in 19th-ranked Maria Sholokhova and No. 60 Ekaterina Ivanova. Senior Olivia Symons battled with Ivanova at No. 2, leading 6-5 in the second set but was unable to conclude the match once it was clinched.
Â
Sophomore Patsy Daughters was on the brink of a second team point for the Ducks, leading 7-5, 5-2 on court four when the match was decided. Daughters trailed 5-2 in the opening set before rattling off five consecutive games to take the first set.
Â
Playing on centre court, Tilde Jagare held her own against Sholokova in singles but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-4.
Â
Oregon (11-11, 2-8) dropped the doubles point for just the fifth time in 22 dual matches, dropping decisions on courts one and three. Ten of Oregon's 11 losses have come against ranked inside the nation's top 60. As a team, Oregon boasts a 55-341 combined dual singles record while going 32-20 in doubles play.
