Huskies Take Defensive Battle
02/15/26 | Women's Basketball
Ducks fall at No. 25 Washington 51-43.
SEATTLE – Rivalry games can sometimes bring with it uncharacteristic performances, and Sunday's game between Oregon and Washington was just that.
In a game where the Ducks trailed by 15 points in the first quarter, Oregon closed the half on a 15-0 nothing run to take a 28-27 lead at the break. But the 25th-ranked Huskies grinded out a 51-43 victory at Alaska Airlines Arena in the Ducks' lowest-scoring game of the year.
Junior Sarah Rambus was UO's lone player to reach double figures, scoring 12 points off the bench on 5-of-7 shooting. UO's top three scorers – Ehis Etute, Katie Fiso and Mia Jacobs – combined for 16 points. Etute grabbed a team-best 11 boards while Fiso handed out five assists.
"I told the team today, I thought defensively it was one of our best efforts of the year," said head coach Kelly Graves. "We defended well enough to win the game, but the offense just wasn't there.
"I was proud of the effort, proud of the defense. … We did a good job, we turned them over. We did what we needed to do defensively and on the boards to win the game. But, ultimately, we just couldn't find the basket."

After going 9-of-14 from the field in the second quarter to claw back and take the lead, UO's offense went cold in the second half, making just 4-of-28 field goal attempts. Oregon forced 21 Washington turnovers, but the Ducks went scoreless over the game's final 3:47.
"I thought we had some good looks," Graves said. "I thought we executed some really good looks to get the right people the right shots, and they just didn't go in."
How It Happened: The Ducks misfired on their first five shots from the floor, while Washington's first three baskets all came from downtown in opening an early 9-1 lead. UW went on to lead 13-1, forcing an Oregon timeout midway through the quarter. Astera Tuhina knocked down a jumper at the top of the key to end the shooting drought to bring the score to 15-3.
UO finished the quarter shooting 4-of-13 while the Huskies went 8-for-19, including 4-of-10 from beyond the arc to lead 22-9 after a quarter. Rambus led the Ducks with four points and two boards.
Oregon's offense finally gained some traction in the second quarter, hitting back-to-back layups to start the frame, and later scored 15 unanswered points to take a 28-27 lead into the locker room. UO's defense held the Huskies scoreless over the final 8:29 of the half, and limited UW to 2-of-13 from the floor in the frame.
Five different Ducks scored during their third-longest scoring run of the season, which was capped by an and-one by Jacobs to give the Ducks their first lead of the day with just over a minute and a half remaining. Oregon's bench helped stabilize the offense, scoring 12 points in the half.

The Ducks' run ended in the third with the Huskies scoring the first four of the quarter, but UO responded by scoring the next four to reclaim a one-point edge. Neither offense was able to gain much momentum, as the Huskies won the quarter 10-6 to take a 37-34 lead to the fourth. UO's offense was just 1-of-14 from the floor and 0-for-4 from the 3-point line.
The teams traded buckets over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, with UW leading 45-41 with just under five minutes to play. Ari Long hit the Ducks' first 3-pointer of the night at the 6:36 mark, a shot that brought Oregon within three, only to see Washington answer with a triple of its own.
A Rambus jumper got the Ducks within two, 45-43, with just under four minutes remaining. From there, both teams went scoreless over the next 2:39 of game time, and the Huskies were able to salt the game away. Oregon's offense connected on just 4-of-28 field goals in the second half, going 1-of-6 from downtown.
Up Next: The Ducks return to Matthew Knight Arena to host Nebraska on Thursday (6 p.m., B1G+).
