Furutani, Santitto fall in semifinals, Jagare makes Round of 16.
STANFORD, Calif. – Playing deep into the weekend at the annual ITA Northwest Regionals, the singles run of Tilde Jagare and the semifinal run of doubles partners Hinata Furutani and Juliet Santitto came to an end Sunday at Arrillaga Tennis Center.
Furutani and Santitto made a magical run to the doubles semifinals, winning four straight matches over a three-day span to be one of just four tandems remaining on Sunday after the bracket began with 64. The UO duo lost in a battle to Washington's Nela Jandova and Marina Markina, 6-4, 7-6 (3).
The loss snapped a seven-match doubles winning streak for Furutani and Santitto's six-match winning streak.
Jagare advanced to the Round of 16 after consecutive wins in the main draw on Friday and Saturday. Sunday, she went up against California's Leara Cilekova and was defeated in straight sets 6-0, 6-4. IT marked Jagare's first singles loss of the fall season (5-1).
The Ducks will get a few weeks off before they hit the court again at the ITA Sectional Championships, which get underway in Los Angeles on Thursday, Nov. 5
