01/18/26 | Women's Basketball
Ducks fall 94-92 at Wisconsin.
MADISON, Wis. – Sunday's matchup between Oregon and Wisconsin was an epic back-and-forth battle.
In a game that featured 14 ties and a dozen lead changes, the Badgers clawed out a 94-92 double-overtime thriller at Kohl Center.
"We had plenty of opportunities to win this game and just didn't take advantage," said head coach Kelly Graves. "I hurt for the team. I hurt for them, we tried hard. We've just got to figure out a way to make key plays."
Wisconsin scored the final six points of regulation to force the game to an extra period at 69-69. In the first overtime, Oregon went on a 9-3 run to take a three-point lead with under 10 seconds left, only to see UW's Destiny Howell hit a game-tying three with under five seconds on the clock, sending the game to another five-minute period.
It was Howell again for the Badgers who hit two free throws with under four seconds remaining to lift her team to victory. Howell hit 10 3-pointers on her way to a career-high 39 points.
Mia Jacobs scored a season-high 30 points behind six 3-pointers and Katie Fiso dropped a career-high 26 in the Ducks' second double-overtime game of the season. Ehis Etute turned in her third double-double of season with 13 points and 10 rebounds, scoring nine points in the third to help UO overcome a five-point halftime deficit.
Twelve of Fiso's 26 points came in the two overtime periods, while Jacobs scored nine in the extra frames. The duo, Oregon's leading scorers on the year, accounted for 21 of the Ducks' 23 points in overtime.
How It Happened: Four different Ducks accounted for the first four field goals of the game, including 3-pointers from Jacobs and Long to help UO open a 10-8 lead over the first four minutes of action. The Badgers knocked down three 3-pointers in the quarter to take a one-point lead after 10 minutes, 15-14.
UW's hot shooting from beyond the arc continued in the second quarter, as it hit five more triples for eight first-half threes. Wisconsin led by as many as eight in the first half, but Oregon was able to trim its deficit to five points at the break after scoring six of the final nine points.
Fiso and Jacobs each scored eight points in the first half to lead the Ducks, while Long added seven and three boards. UO shot 48 percent from the floor to Wisconsin's 43 percent but the Badgers went 8-of-17 from the 3-point line while the Ducks were just 3-of-9.
A Jacobs three on Oregon's first possession of the third quarter trimmed Wisconsin's lead to two, 36-34. Later, Fiso knocked down her first triple to claw within a point two minutes into the half and, on the next possession, Etute finished a tough layup to put UO in front for the first time since the first quarter. Oregon scored 10 unanswered points during a 13-2 opening run to the half.
Etute scored nine points on 4-of-4 shooting over the first five and a half minutes of the third quarter to push Oregon's lead to five points at the media timeout, 46-41. Jacobs drilled a pair of 3-pointers in the quarter while Fiso added four points, as the Ducks took a 52-47 lead to the fourth quarter.
The lead expanded to eight after Astera Tuhina's 3-pointer on the first possession of the fourth, and later the Ducks led by 10 after an Etute coast-to-coast layin. The Badgers, however, responded by scoring 10 unanswered points to even the score at 57 with just under five minutes remaining.
Jacobs ended UW's run and reclaimed the lead for her team with a banked-in 3-pointer with 3:36 on the clock, her fifth triple of the afternoon. After Wisconsin answered with a three, Long knocked down a corner three to push the lead back to four, 65-61, with two minutes to play.
UO's lead sat at six points with just under one minute to play, and Wisconsin rallied to score the next six points via three free throws and a banked in 3-pointer to tie the game with 16 seconds on the clock. After a held ball on the inbound, Wisconsin maintained possession and missed the potential game-winning jumper as time expired to send the game to overtime.
Oregon went on a 9-3 run in overtime to take an 80-77 lead with 9.1 seconds left, but Wisconsin nailed a game-tying three with 4.2 seconds on the clock to force a second overtime period. Jacobs scored seven of Oregon's 11 points in the first overtime.
Wisconsin grabbed a four-point lead midway through the second overtime and the Ducks battled to tie it on a Fiso fadeaway jumper with 16 seconds left. The Badgers had possession with a chance for the last shot, and Howell drew a foul with 3.2 on the clock and hit both free throws to give her team a 94-92 victory.
