09/19/25 | Women's Volleyball
Freshman Alanah Clemente led all players with 19 kills (.378) including the match winner.
PORTLAND, Ore. — The Oregon volleyball team closed out its non-conference slate Friday night with a come-from-behind, five-set road win (18-25, 25-12, 20-25, 25-13, 15-12) over Portland State. Freshman Alanah Clemente had a match-high 19 kills including the Ducks' last two tallies. With the result, Oregon takes a 9-1 record into Big Ten play.
Clemente, who hit .378 in the match, was joined in double figures by Maria Tabacuks and Ksenija Tomic with 14 and 10 kills, respectively. Valentina Vaulet accounted for nine kills, nine digs, four aces and two blocks, and was key with big service runs in the second and fourth sets.
Defensively, freshman libero Natalie Fukumoto tied the match high with 13 digs to go along with seven assists, a season-high figure. Led by five blocks from Iva Sucurovic, the Ducks had 10.0 total team blocks and have now reached double-digit blocks in seven of 10 matches during the non-conference season.
How It Happened: In the decisive fifth set, the Ducks used a four-point surge to break a 4-all tie to lead 8-5 at the side switch. Sucurovic had two slide kills and a block during the stretch. Vaulet gave Oregon a 10-6 lead with a kill off the block. However, Portland State (4-6) answered with a three-point run to cut the Ducks' lead to one.
Out of the huddle, Oregon rattled off three of the next four points with kills from Vaulet and Clemente and the fourth ace of the night from Vaulet. Clemente gave Oregon match point with her 18th kill of the evening, and on the team's second match point, found the floor again to secure the five-set victory.
Notable: The Ducks are 2-1 in five setters this season … Oregon accounted for all 25 of its points in the second set—20 kills, three aces and two blocks … Tabacuks had seven of her 14 kills in the second set … Tomic had 10 kills (.421), three blocks and a dig in the final three sets of the match … Sucurovic has five or more blocks in seven of 10 matches.
