Upset Bid vs #19 FIU Falls Short
04/11/25 | Women's Beach Volleyball
The Ducks’ weekend continues Saturday at 10 a.m. against No. 9 Long Beach State.
EUGENE, Ore. – In its weekend opener, the Oregon beach volleyball team got to within a point of the program's second-ever ranked win before falling to No. 19 FIU, 3-2, at the Husky Invitational. Oregon took a 2-1 dual lead after wins at No. 4 and 1 pairs, respectively, but the Panthers picked up the final two points for the come-from-behind result.
Oregon (5-14) also lost to weekend host and 20th-ranked Washington on Friday.
With a three-set victory alongside Bella Gamache at the top of the lineup against FIU, senior Ella Tyus became the third player in program history to reach 40 career wins. Tyus joins that exclusive list that also features Bea Wetton (45 wins) and Ashley Schroeder (43).
The Ducks won the first set in three of five duals, holding on for wins at No. 1 and 4 pairs. In addition to the point from Gamache and Tyus, the team got on the board—its second point—with its three-set win from Hanna Bjornson and Kamilah Checani on court four. Friday marked the duo's first time teaming up this season.
