The Ducks won the first set in three of the five matches against GCU, and forced the Lopes to three sets on four of the five courts Saturday morning. However, the 16th-ranked team in the country found a way to secure the 5-0 dual win.
At No. 1 pairs, Bella Gamache and Ella Tyus had a handful of match points in the second frame—led 20-17—against the GCU pair of Adrianna Ferro and Katie Keefe but were extended to a decisive third. The teams traded points early in the third but with the score tied at 5-all, GCU put together a 5-0 run for an insurmountable lead.
It was Gamache and Tyus' third three setter against the No. 1 pairs of a ranked team this season, also pushing the top duos from Stetson (March 1) and UCLA (March 7).
