Ducks Fall Twice in Utah Opener

Oregon faces UC Davis and host Utes on day two of the Utah Beach Classic.
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Oregon beach volleyball team picked up points in each of its two duals on day one of the Utah Beach Classic but, ultimately, lost those matches to Boise State and Arizona.
In the weekend opener, the Ducks fell behind 0-2 after the first wave of matches but took the opening set on each of the three remaining courts. Landree Coats and Daley McClellan, in their first pairing this season, put Oregon on the board with a 23-21, 21-16 victory at the No. 3 spot in the lineup.
McClellan, in her season debut, collected her 20th career win with the Friday morning result.
Boise State responded to clinch the match and secure the final two points with a pair of three-set wins. The Ducks' top pair of Bella Gamache and Ella Tyus have played a three setter in four of the past six, all against the No. 1 pairs of teams either ranked or receiving votes.

For the second time this season, Gamache and Tyus registered a straight-set win at No. 1 pairs against Arizona. With the dual outcome already decided—UA won the first three matches—the Ducks scored their first point with the 21-18, 21-19 triumph at the top of the lineup.
Oregon's second point came from Natasha George and Liz Rossi on court five with another straight-set victory. The win for George marked the 27th of her career, good for the fifth most in program history.
