01/12/25 | Men's Basketball
STATE COLLEGE, Penn. – Oregon men's basketball stayed undefeated on the road Sunday, after claiming an 82-81 win at Penn State.
In what was the Ducks' first-ever visit to State College, the new environment proved tough in the second half, as the Ducks let a seven-point halftime lead slip away. Penn State outscored Oregon 47-41 in the half, but late baskets from Keeshawn Barthelemy, Jackson Shelstad and Jadrian Tracey gave the Ducks their third true road win of the season.
How It Happened: Penn State started the game on a quick 5-0 run, before the Ducks found their rhythm. The Ducks took their first lead of the half on a 9-0 run capped by a Barthelemy runner, going up 11-8. After a Nittany Lions bucket broke a 16-16 tie, the Ducks went on a 14-2 run fueled by transition baskets and three pointers.
Oregon led 32-18 after TJ Bamba scored his eighth point of the half on a driving layup. Things slowed down for the Ducks from there, with the teams trading baskets late in the half. Penn State closed the half on a 7-0 run after three Oregon turnovers. At the break, the Ducks led 41-34.
The team traded baskets to start the second half, each scoring eight points apiece in the first four minutes. The Nittany Lions took control at that point, going on a 9-0 run to take a 51-49 lead. Nick Kern, Zach Hicks and Freddie Dilione V led the charge for the Nittany Lions, each scoring over 10 points in the second half.
Penn State built a seven-point lead that they maintained for the middle portion of the second half, before a late UO run. The Ducks closed the game hitting six of their last seven field goal attempts, with big shots from Barthelemy and Shelstad down the stretch. With the game tied 78-78, Shelstad pulled up for a running jump shot to take the lead.
After a missed shot on the other end, Tracey knocked down two clutch free throws to put the Ducks in front by four. Penn State hit a three with 4 seconds left to cut the lead to one. UO then struggled to get the ball in bounds, but got it to Shelstad in the corner, who dribbled out the remainder of the clock.
Notable: Shelstad stayed hot and finished with a team-high 17 points, followed by Barthelemy with 15 off the bench.
Up Next: Oregon returns home to host Purdue on Saturday (12 p.m. PT on Peacock).
