
Men of Oregon Third at Cowboy Jamboree

Simeon Birnbaum and Benjamin Balazs paced the Ducks with top-20 individual finishes.
STILLWATER, Okla. – The No. 22 Oregon men's cross country team finished third at Saturday's Cowboy Jamboree on the Greiner Family Course in Stillwater, Okla. The Ducks were led by top-20 finishes from Simeon Birnbaum and Benjamin Balazs in 14th and 17th place, respectively. Oregon's top five all crossed inside the top 24.
In his first cross country race wearing a UO kit, Birnbaum maintained a top-20 spot throughout the race and was the first Duck across the line in 24:10.9. Saturday was his first race since the Oregon Preview in March. Balazs made a move into the top 20 with 2K to go and finished with a time of 24:14.8, good for the second top-20 result of his career.
The team's next three finished within three spots of one another with Jeffery Rogers (24:24.3) crossing in 21st place followed by Josh Schumacher (24:29.1) and Tayson Echohawk (24:31.2) taking 23rd and 24th, respectively. Saturday marked the UO debut of Echohawk, a redshirt freshman from Provo, Utah.
Aiden Smith, the Ducks' sixth runner, finished in 24:47.8 and was 30th overall.

Host and top-ranked Oklahoma State won the men's race followed by No. 8 New Mexico in second. The Ducks finished ahead of No. 24 Texas and Incarnate Word which rounded out the top five, respectively.
Up next: The UO men and women are back in action in two weeks, hosting the Bill Dellinger Invitational on Friday, Oct. 11, at the Pine Ridge Golf Club in Springfield, Ore. The men's 8K is set for 11:15 a.m. with the women's 6K going off at 12 p.m.
