04/13/24 | Track and Field
Oregon also competed at the Beach and Lane CC Titan meets Saturday.
AZUSA, Calif. – Headlined by a top-five finish by Klaudia Kazimierska, the Oregon track and field team closed out a busy weekend in the loaded 1500-meter fields at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Elliott Cook and Maddy Elmore each finished 11th in their respective invitational sections.
The Bryan Clay meet was one of three UO meets Saturday, along with the Beach Invitational and the Lane CC Titan Invitational in Eugene.
Kazimierska established a new collegiate personal best of 4:08.43, strengthening her hold as the No. 5 performer in program history. She was fifth overall and third among collegians. Elmore, in another sub-4:10 outing, crossed the finish line in 4:09.36, nearly four seconds faster than last year's 1500 opener.
Teammate Ella Nelson, one day removed from an outdoor PB in the 800, posted a time of 4:18.43 for a second lifetime best in as many days.
Cook finished in a season-best time of 3:38.55, good for fourth in his flight and 11th overall. The time is just behind his 3:38.12 from last May's USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix. Rheinhardt Harrison finished in a time of 3:41.64 in his first full 1500 of the season.
Competing in the open section of the 1500 meters, Luke Affolder ran a personal best of 3:44.99 to take down his previous best of 3:45.16 from two week ago at the Stanford Invitational. He won his section of the event and finished sixth overall.
In early results Saturday, Jaida Ross and Shelby Moran finished third and fifth, respectively, in the elite section of the discus at the Beach Invitational. Ross posted a day's best of 56.21m/184-5 while Moran had a best of 53.60m/175-10 to move up from seventh on her final attempt of the competition.
The Ducks collected four wins at the Lane CC Titan Invitational led by a lifetime-best effort by Madyson Kannon (1:02.66) in the 400-meter hurdles. The team's winner's circle at the Eugene meet also included Caleb Hagan in the 100 meters, Vincent Corday in the men's 400 hurdles and Isabella Nilsen in the pole vault.
Up Next: The Ducks are back in the LA area next weekend for the Mt. SAC Relays (April 17-20) at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. The team's next home meet is the Oregon Twilight (May 3) at Hayward Field.
