Lucy Pennington-Russell is in her second season with the Oregon beach program.
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon beach volleyball assistant coach Lucy Pennington-Russell has been named one of this year's recipients of the AVCA Thirty Under 30 Beach Awards. The list of college, club and beach honorees was announced Wednesday.
With this year's selection, Pennington-Russell becomes a two-time Thirty Under 30 recipient having previously been honored in 2022 during her time at Division II Lincoln Memorial. Eight of the Thirty Under 30 Beach picks are repeat winners.
During the 2024 spring dual season, the Ducks picked up wins over Southeastern Louisiana, Corban, Utah, Bushnell and Portland. Oregon also scored dual points in eventual setbacks to ranked teams in Washington (#11), Georgia State (#15) and Arizona (#18).
Pennington-Russell's coaching career began at Carson-Newman in 2019 as a graduate assistant for the indoor program. That spring, Pennington-Russell also served as the interim head coach for the Carson-Newman beach team. She has additional indoor coaching experience at Lincoln Memorial and Emory & Henry College (2022).
The AVCA Thirty Under 30 Beach Awards are now in their fourth year. The program, which includes college and club awards, recognizes up-and-coming coaches in different sectors of the sport serving various roles from head coach to volunteer assistant to club director. Recipients had to be age 30 or under as of Dec. 31, 2023, to qualify.
The Ducks' fall tournament season continues Nov. 2-3 with the City of Trees Classic in Boise, Idaho.
