Ducks Sweep Oregon State in Corvallis

Mimi Colyer put down a season-high 21 kills Saturday afternoon.
CORVALLIS, Ore. — The sixth-ranked Oregon volleyball team put a cap on its regular season with a 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-20, 25-20) over Oregon State Saturday afternoon at Gill Coliseum. Mimi Colyer tallied a season-high 21 kills and the Ducks put up 11.0 total team blocks in the sweep. Oregon heads into the postseason with a 26-5 overall record including a 16-4 mark in the Pac-12.
Colyer replaced her previous season high of 20 kills, a figure she'd posted twice during non-conference play. She hit .425 against the Beavers and accounted for 23 points in the sweep. Colyer also contributed five digs, two blocks and an ace.
Hannah Pukis dished out 38 assists coupled with seven digs. Saturday marked the 15th time this season the Ducks hit .300 or higher. Morgan Lewis and Karson Bacon added seven and six kills, respectively.
Defensively, libero Georgia Murphy led all players with 12 digs. She was followed closely by Gabby Gonzales who picked up 11 digs of her own. Kara McGhee posted a match-high six blocks with Bacon right behind at five. Oregon held the Beavers to a .167 hitting percentage.
How It Happened: Oregon State (11-19, 6-14) jumped out to a 7-4 lead to start the match but the opening set was tied 11 times, lastly at 14-all before the Ducks asserted themselves. Oregon reeled off six of the next seven points to go ahead 20-15, capping the surge with a tandem block by Lewis and McGhee.
The home team pulled to within three—UO leading 21-18—but the Ducks ended the set on a 4-0 run. Colyer closed it out with her eighth kill of the first set.
Oregon carried the momentum into the second, winning seven of the first 10 points and forcing OSU into an early timeout. The Ducks led by as many eight—19-11—after Bacon-Pukis block. Oregon had a handful of set points at 24-18 thanks to a solo stuff by McGhee. The home saved a pair of set points before Lewis put away a kill for a 2-0 match lead.
In a similar start to the opener, the Beavers took a 7-4 advantage in the third set. Oregon responded with eight of the next nine points. Colyer put a bow on the run of points with a kill, and the Ducks led 12-8. Oregon maintained a cushion of at least three points for the remainder of the match. With UO ahead 23-20, Colyer and McGhee tucked kills inside the OSU block to clinch the sweep.
