Ducks Dominate in Opening Round of Pac-12s

SAN DIEGO – Oregon got its postseason off to a dominant start, blanking Utah with a 4-0 win in the opening round of the Pac-12 Championships on Friday at the Barnes Tennis Center.

The Ducks will take on California in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Championships on Saturday at 12 p.m.

How It Happened: The Ducks rolled in doubles play, scoring big wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots to lock up the opening point. Julia Eshet and Allison Mulville cruised to a win at the No. 3 spot, winning the first five games on the way to a 6-1 win. Uxia Martinez Moral and Myah Petchey turned in an equally dominant win at the No. 2 spot to clinch the point with a 6-1 win of their own while Rifanty Kahfiani and Janice Tjen were up 5-2 at the No. 1 spot when the Ducks clinched the point.

Oregon kept its strong play going into singles play, winning the first three matches to finish to complete the shutout. Tjen continued her stellar freshman season, winning 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to put up the second point of the day.

The Ducks picked up wins at the No. 5 and 6 spots to clinch the victory, with Myah Petchey delivering a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 6 spot followed by Eshet providing the clincher with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. Martinez Moral led 6-3, 3-2 in her match at the No. 3 spot when it was halted while Kahfiani and Ares Teixido Garcia were locked in close battles at the No. 2 and 4 spots respectively when the match ended.
