BANDON, Ore. – Behind four rounds of even par or better, Oregon shot 7 under in round two of the Bandon Dunes Championship to move into second place heading into Tuesday's final round at the Pacific Dunes Course at Bandon. Kevin Geniza shot a 2-under 69 for the second straight day and is in a tie for fourth individually, just one shot off the lead.
How it Happened: Tom Gueant delivered the round of the day for the Ducks, shooting a 3-under 68 to move into a tie for 12th at 1 under. He opened with a birdie at the par-5 12th but gave the shot back with a bogey at 14. The sophomore bounced back with four birdies over the next nine holes to reach 4 under on the round, but dropped a shot coming down the stretch to finish 3 under.
Geniza started his day with a bogey on hole 14, but turned in steady play the rest of the way. He birdied the par-5 18th and third holes before dropping a shot at the fourth. A birdie at the short par-4 sixth got him back into red figures for the round before he picked up another shot at the par-5 12th to close his day.
Freshman Nate Stember also turned in a 2-under 69 and is tied for 41st. He started his day on hole 15 and was 1 over for the round through nine holes, but turned it on down the stretch. Stember went bogey-free over the second half of his round, making birdies at holes five, eight and 12 to get back into red figures.
Craig Ronne's even-par 71 puts him in a tie for 23rd and was the final counting score for the Ducks while Yin Ho Yue shot a 3-over 74 and is tied for 49th. The Ducks are six shots behind round two leader Oregon State while Geniza is just a shot off the individual lead that is shared by three players.
