Gueant Leads Heading into Final Round
02/22/20 | Men's Golf
PALM DESERT, Calif. – Tom Gueant will head into the final round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate alone atop the individual leaderboard at 6 under following the Saturday's second round at the Classic Club. The sophomore has a 36-hole lead for the first time in his collegiate career and is one shot clear of a group of four other players.
Oregon couldn't get much going as a team on a much tougher scoring day for the entire field, shooting 11 over to fall into a tie for sixth place.
How it Happened: Gueant picked up where he left off to start today's round making birdies at two of his first four holes to reach 10 under for the tournament. He cooled off from there, though, making bogeys at three of the next five to drop to 1 over on the round at the turn. After six straight pars to start the back nine, he stumbled again with a double bogey at the par-4 16th, but got one back with a finishing birdie and a round of 2-over 74.
Nate Stember is in a tie for 27th at even par after following up a steady opening round with a 2-over 74. The freshman made some mistakes throughout the round with five bogeys on the day, but made up for it with four birdies on the round, including one at the par-5 18th.
Craig Ronne shot a 3-over 75 making birdies at a pair of par 5s to sit in a tie for 53rd while Yin Ho Yue and Kevin Geniza are each tied for 57th after Yue shot a 4-over 76 and Geniza shot a 78.
