The Oregon women’s tennis team began its six-game homestand with a solid 4-1 win over Montana on Friday.
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's tennis team began its six-game homestand with a solid 4-1 win over Montana on Friday at the Student Tennis Center.
How It Happened: Oregon (5-3) made quick work of Montana (0-7) to begin the afternoon, claiming the doubles point with commanding wins at number one and two spots.
Shweta Sangwan and Rifanty Kahfiani were the first pair to finish, keeping their perfect record intact as they rolled to a 6-1 victory at the top of the lineup.
Daniela Nasser and Paiton Wagner followed closely behind, cruising to a 6-0 win to give the Ducks a 1-0 edge entering singles play.
Kahfiani carried her momentum from doubles over to singles as she opened with a dominating 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot. Freshman Allison Mulville followed suit shortly after with a 6-0, 6-1 win of her own.
The Grizzlies attempted to mount a comeback with a win at the No. 6 spot, but Sangwan sealed the victory for the Ducks after taking down her opponent at the top spot, 6-4, 6-2.
Notable: Shweta Sangwan now has 61 career victories, pushing the senior into ninth place on UO's all-time career wins list alongside current teammate Daniela Nasser and Kumi Nagamoto (1987-90).
