No. 3 Ducks Fall at Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. – No. 3 Oregon battled back from 11 points down in the fourth to tie it, but Michigan State pulled away in the final minute to hand the Ducks their first loss of the year, 88-82, on Sunday afternoon in front of 6,462 fans at the Breslin Center.
The Ducks (7-1) were led by Sabrina Ionescu's 29 points while Erin Boley, who's birthday was Sunday, tallied 24 points including six three-pointers.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Oregon opened the game on a 9-0 run and led by as much as 12 in the first quarter before Michigan State cut the Ducks' advantage to just three, 25-22, going to the second. Boley had a team-high nine points in the first quarter on a trio to three-pointers.
The Ducks went cold in the second, as Michigan State went on a 17-2 run over the final 4:32 to take a 46-39 lead at halftime. Oregon made just one three-pointer in the second and were 4-of-11 from deep in the opening half.
Oregon trimmed the MSU lead to just two points, 62-60, with 2:49 left in the third but again the Spartans used a run to end the quarter. Michigan State outscored the Ducks 7-0 in the final minutes and owned a 69-60 lead going to the fourth quarter. The early Oregon rally was fueled by Boley, who had 13 points in the third quarter alone.
Down by as much as 11 in the fourth, Oregon battled back to tie it twice. Boley hit a jumper to tie it, 75-75, with 3:15 left and Ruthy Hebard scored with 2:18 remaining to make it a 77-77 game. Two deep three-pointers by Michigan State in the final 90 seconds proved to be the difference as the Ducks lost, 88-82.
BOX SCORE: In addition to the 20-plus point efforts by Ionescu and Boley, Hebard had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Maite Cazorla had a season-high 11 assists. Michigan State center Jenna Allen had a team-high 27 points including one of the two late Spartan three-pointers.
