AFTER STRUGGLING THROUGH THE FIRST TWO ROUNDS OF THE PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS, OREGON SHAVED OFF 15 STROKES IN WEDNESDAY'S FINAL ROUND TO SHOOT A 5-OVER 293 AND FINISH THE TOURNAMENT IN NINTH OVERALL
Tucson, Ariz. - After carding a 30-over 318 and a 20-over 308 through the first two rounds of the Pac-12 Championships, the Oregon women's golf team shaved off 15 strokes in the final round to card an impressive 5-over 293 on Wednesday at Sewailo Golf Club.
The Ducks (318-308-293--919, +55) finished the Pac-12 Championships in ninth place, moving up one spot from Tuesday. UCLA claimed the team title at 2-under, 21 strokes better than second-place Colorado, and the Bruins also boasted the individual champion in Lilia Vu (-7).
How it Happened: Looking for a solid finish after enduring some struggles through the first two rounds, Oregon received consistent rounds up and down its lineup on Wednesday. Senior Cathleen Santoso wrapped up the tournament as the top Duck on the individual leaderboard in a tie for 19th at 10-over, and shot a 2-over 74 in the final round. Santoso played consistent golf from the opening tee, tallying 16 pars against just two bogies.
Junior Kelsey Ulep bounced back from a tough first two rounds to card the low round of the day for the Ducks. After a bogey on her first hole, Ulep was 2-under over her next nine holes and added two more birdies in the final five holes to finish the round with a 1-under 71. Ulep closed out the tournament at 18 over.
Sophomore Kathleen Scavo finished the Championships as the second Duck on the leaderboard, coming in in a tie for 30th at 14 over. Scavo played good golf to wrap up the week, firing one of three 2-over 74s for the Ducks on Wednesday. Scavo was even through her first nine holes. Fellow sophomore Petra Salko also carded a 2-over 74 in the third round, and ended the week tied for 42nd at 17-over.
Senior Marcella Pranovia rounded out the Oregon lineup with a 7-over 79 in the final round, and finished the tournament at 22 over.
What it Means: The Ducks placed ninth in the tournament and will now wait to see if they will be awarded a spot in an NCAA Regional. The NCAA will anounced the fields for the four regionals tomorrow at 8 a.m. PT. Seventy-two teams and 24 individuals will be selected.

"As our scores indicated, it took us some time to learn how to play this course under the windy conditions. We didn't make the right course management adjustments during the first two rounds to be able to put up a good score. Our team played hard today, and they never quit. They all managed themselves and the course well today, and it was a good way to finish the event. So proud of Kelsey for coming back and shooting 1-under today, and for Petra's comeback as well. Santoso and Scavo had a lot of looks at birdie and just didn't get them to drop. I believe this is where we finished the conference tournament last year. Last year, the team did a good job of wiping the slate clean and starting over for NCAA Regionals. We hope to mirror that mindset and effort."
Notable: Ulep and Scavo each finished the tournament with eight birdies to lead the Ducks … Santoso wrapped the week with 36 pars, sixth-most in the field … Santoso and Scavo were both even on par-5 holes on the week … UCLA finished with four players in the top 15 on the individual leaderboard.
