Ducks Split Weekend With Win Over Broncos

BOISE, Idaho - The University of Oregon women's tennis team defeated the Boise State Broncos Sunday at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center 4-3.
The Ducks are now 6-5 on the season, while the Broncos move to 7-4.
"I am proud with how the team responded from yesterday," head coach Alison Silverio said. "We fought hard and were determined to make it happen. It was a complete team effort."
How it Happened: In doubles, sophomore Shweta Sangwan and junior Alyssa Tobita earned their 15th doubles win of the season (15-6) with a 6-3 result against Lilian Poling and Anja Dokic of Boise State. Solidifying the Ducks' early 1-0 lead was a 6-4 victory by junior Nia Rose and senior Paloma Gomez over Jovana Kuljanin and Nancy Menjivar. Today's match was Gomez's first action of the season. Senior Marlou Kluiving and freshman Julia Eshet were trailing 4-5 against Hanna Kantenwein and Wiktoria Nosek, but the match went unfinished.
In singles, the Broncos earned the first point as Gomez was defeated by Kristy Venter, 4-6, 1-6. Eshet was the second finisher of the day and took down Nosek, 6-4, 6-1. Kluiving earned her 16th singles with with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Menjivar. The Broncos fought back to move the score to 3-2 as Dokic defeated Rose, 6-7, 5-7. Sangwan earned the winning point for the Ducks after a hard-fought three-set match against Kantenwein, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Boise State earned their third point of the day with closing a win by Poling over Tobita, 4-6, 6-3, 5-7.
What it Means: After a tough 2-4 loss on Saturday against the Denver Pioneers, the Ducks bounced back with vengeance to split the Idaho weekend. Oregon is now 6-5 overall.

Looking Ahead: The Ducks will head north to face the Washington schools next weekend. On Friday, March 10, Oregon will face the Washington Huskies at the Nordstrom Tennis Center at 2:00 p.m. PT. The match will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network. On Sunday, March 12, the Ducks will travel to Pullman for a 11:00 a.m. match against the Cougars at the Simmelink Tennis Courts.
