Ducks Improve After Second Round in Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 5 University of Oregon men's golf team finished 5th after the second round of The Goodwin at the Stanford Golf Course (296-281—577, +16). The Ducks jumped eight spots from yesterday's finish tied for 13th.
Redshirt sophomore Ryan Gronlund paces the Ducks and is tied for second overall at 2-under (71, 67—138). After the end of the first round, the Pleasanton, Calif., native was tied for 18th.
Host No. 12 Stanford (276-288—564, +4) is first in the team standings one stroke ahead of No. 1 USC (285-280—565, +5). Third place belongs to UNLV at 13-over (289-284—573), while Washington is three strokes ahead of Oregon in fouth (283-291—574).
Individually, Rhett Rasmussen of BYU leads the field after firing a 64 in the second combining with his first round of 72 (136, -4). Corey Pereira (Washington), Maverick McNealy (Stanford), Harry Hall (UNLV), Gronlund are tied for second. Sean Crocker of USC rounds out the top of the leaderboard and is 6th (72-67—139, -1).

How it Happened: The Ducks opened up the back nine meeting par 28 times, six birdies and 10 bogeys. In the first round, the Ducks had four double bogeys on the back nine, improving to one on the 13th hole during the second round.
Through six holes, Gronlund was tied for 15th at 1-over, but jumped up to 2nd place overall through 12 holes, with five birdies, two bogeys and meeting par five times. Xiong was the next highest Duck on the leaderboard, tied at 27th (+3).
To finish the day, the Ducks closed out with eight birdies and an Eagle to finish fifth at 17-over.
Gronlund held his spot atop the best and ended in a four-way tie for second. Xiong, despite shooting an eight on Hole 6, finished tied for 19, the second highest for Oregon.
Redshirt senior Wyndham Clark is 5-over (77-68—145) and tied for 26th. Sophomore Edwin Yi (76-74—150, +10) and freshman Kevin Geniza (81-79—160, +20) rounded out the Oregon lineup tied for 62 and 120, respectively.
