Ducks Sweep BYU to Remain Perfect at Home

OREGON MOVES TO 9-2 AND 7-0 AT HOME, THOMAS LAURENT WINS 14TH SINGLES MATCH IN A ROW
EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon men's tennis team moved to 9-2 overall and 7-0 at home on Friday night with a 7-0 sweep of BYU at the Student Tennis Center.
Sophomore Thomas Laurent won his 14th singles match in a row, moving within one of tying the program record of 15.
How it Happened: Oregon continued to fare well in doubles, claiming the point for the eighth match in a row. All three pairs earned wins for the Ducks, with the duo of Jayson Amos and Armando Soemarno winning, 6-1, at No. 1, and Akihiro Tanaka and Simon Stevens also claiming a 6-1 victory at No. 3. Laurent and Clissold completed the doubles sweep with a 6-5 (9-7) win in a tight match on the second court.
Tanaka earned Oregon its second point to kick off singles, taking down BYU's Matthew Pearce, 6-3, 6-1, in his first match of the year playing at the No. 3 spot. Amos defeated Jeremy Bourgeois (BYU), 6-4, 6-3, for the third point, and freshman Ty Gentry won on No. 6 over Aidan Carrazedo (BYU), 6-4, 6-1, to clinch the win.
Clissold earned a 7-6, 3-2 win at No. 5 when BYU's John Pearce was forced to medically retire, and Laurent closed the match with his 14th win in a row, a 6-0, 5-7, 6-2 win over the Cougars' Keaton Cullimore.
Laurent's Streak: Laurent will have a chance to tie the program record for consecutive singles wins when the Ducks face No. 42 Drake on Sunday after reaching 14 against BYU. With the win, Laurent improved to 20-2 in singles this season and 39-8 in his career, and remained unbeaten in his career at the No. 1 singles spot (14-0). Laurent is also 29-6 in his career in dual matches.
Notable: Clissold and Laurent improved to an astounding 29-3 all-time together, tied for the seventh-most wins in UO history, and 14-2 this season … Amos and Soemarno moved into a tie for 11th in UO doubles history with their 24th win together … Tanaka improved to 8-2 to start his collegiate dual-match singles career … Gentry as now won three consecutive singles matches.
