CANBY, Ore. – Play was suspended due to darkness as the Oregon men's golf team neared the end of its second round at the Airstream Adventures Northwest Classic. Sophomore Aaron Wise leads and the Ducks sit in second, a stroke behind UNLV, entering the second and final day of play at the par-72, 6,925-yard Willamette Valley Country Club.
How It Happened: The Ducks led after the first round of play on Monday, carding a season-low 279 to hold a one-stroke advantage over UNLV after the first 18 holes of the day. UNLV got to 5-under in the second round to take the lead from the Ducks before play was suspended.
Aaron Wise sits at the top of the player leaderboard after the event's first day. Wise used four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 14th to fire a 5-under 67 in his first round. In his second round, the sophomore would eagle the 14th yet again on his way to wrapping up the day at 2-under through 15 holes to lead at 7-under overall.
After coming in third at the Southern Highlands Collegiate earlier this month, his highest finish of the season, junior Sulman Raza will look to add another stellar finish heading into Tuesday. Raza was tied for fourth at 4-under before the stoppage of play halted his round through 15 holes. The Eugene native carded a 71 in his first round, before converting birdies on the first two holes of his second to quickly climb further up the leaderboard. After another birdie on the par-5 sixth hole, Raza got to 3-under where he would remain for the rest of the day.
Zach Foushee finds himself in a tie for 14th after Monday. Foushee turned in an impressive 4-under 68 in the first round, but struggled to find the same rhythm in his second. After a first round that saw the senior drop in six birdies to only two bogeys on his first 18, Foushee carded three bogeys and a double on the par-4 fourth to drop to 4-over through 17 holes before play was suspended.
Freshman Edwin Yi, who finished his first round with a 2-over 74, was 1-under through 15 holes to tie for 21st. After a 73 in his first round, senior Brandon McIver was 3-over through 16 holes in the second to tie for 38th overall at 4-over.
Competing as individuals, Max Carter, Sam Foust and Nigel Lett each saw action as well. Lett is in ninth on the player leaderboard at 1-under after an even-par 72 to open the day and a 1-under through 15 in his second round. Carter, seeing his first action of the season, posted a 5-over 77 in his first round and finished the day at 8-over in a tie for 63rd with two holes left in his final round. Foust sits in 86th at 27-over after a tough first round.
Up Next: Second round play at the Northwest Classic will resume on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
