Oregon scored a school-record 128 points and broke the arena record with 70 in the second half Saturday.
EUGENE, Ore. — Matched up against one of college basketball's most uptempo teams, the Oregon men were happy to oblige in an up-and-down shootout Saturday at Matthew Knight Arena, coming away with a 128-59 victory over Savannah State.
How It Happened: It seemed to take the Ducks (7-2) a few possessions to find a rhythm at the Tigers' preferred tempo. But once they did, the offensive fireworks ensued. Dillon Brooks scored seven straight during an 11-0 run to an 18-10 lead, and later the Ducks scored on seven straight trips to go ahead 32-18 on a Keith Smith jumper.
Smith scored Oregon's final field goal of the first half, as the Ducks went into the break with a 58-35 lead. Early in the second half, Tyler Dorsey made back-to-back three-pointers to put him over his previous career high of 25 points. That came during a 22-3 run capped by a highlight-reel dunk by Jordan Bell, who passed to himself off the backboard for a 90-43 lead.
The Ducks broke the previous arena record for points in a game, 108, on a putback by Roman Sorkin with 6:07 left that made it 109-56. They tied the program record of 121 points on a Sorkin layin with 3:30 to play, and broke it on a Payton Pritchard three-pointer.
Who Stood Out: Dorsey finished with a career-high 29 points on 12-of-16 shooting, all in just 20 minutes. Brooks added 22 points in just 13 minutes, and Smith led five others in double figures with a career-high 15. Kavell Bigby-Williams had Oregon's first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Pritchard dished out 13 assists.
What It Means: Smith, Sorkin and Bigby-Williams seemed to take full advantage of what ended up being another "developmental game," in UO coach Dana Altman's parlance. Along with 15 points, Smith added eight rebounds and six assists plus two blocks. Sorkin's eight rebounds were second on the team to the 11 of Bigby-Williams.

Head coach Dana Altman
On the way the game unfolded
"We knew coming in that they play fast. And we knew they were going to press us and the floor was going to be open. We were going to have some opportunities to take some threes. … I think we only took a couple bad ones."
Freshman guard Payton Pritchard
On playing at Savannah State's uptempo pace
"It was kind of tiring at the end, but to get up and down that much, it was fun. .. It's still a work in progress. We've got a tough four games coming up (prior to the start of Pac-12 play), so we'll see how were are. But things are coming together."
Junior wing Dillon Brooks
On playing 13 minutes when he's trying to build back up to full strength
"It's all up to coach. He keeps on saving it, saving it. But he's going to let the beast loose soon. And these guys are really holding the fort."
