Ducks Flush Montana For Seventh Straight
12/13/16 | Men's Basketball
Oregon got big games from Chris Boucher and Dylan Ennis and cleaned up its play in the second half to win Tuesday.
EUGENE, Ore. — Shaking off a slow start, the Oregon men's basketball team secured its 100th victory in Matthew Knight Arena on Tuesday night, an 81-67 win over Montana before 6,689 fans.
How It Happened: The Ducks (9-2) took the lead for good at 24-23 on a Chris Boucher basket, as the senior post enjoyed a career night. He finished with 23 points, a career-high 19 rebounds and five blocked shots, setting the tone on a night some other UO regulars were quiet.
Oregon had jumped out to a 10-2 lead before getting sloppy with the ball. Montana (3-8) scored 10 straight to take the lead, and went up as much as seven at 21-14 on a basket by UO transfer Ahmaad Rorie. But the Ducks took better care of the ball late in the first half to build a 38-34 lead at the break, then committed just two second-half turnovers after 11 in the first.
Dylan Ennis also had a career night for the Ducks, scoring 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting. His three-pointer gave the Ducks their first double-digit lead at 55-45, and he hit another three to put Oregon up 11 for the first time, 72-61.
Who Stood Out: Boucher got to 23 points without hitting any of his trademark three-pointers, going 9-of-14 from the field. He played 39 minutes on a night some of the Ducks' backup posts weren't effective. Payton Pritchard added 12 points and four assists.
What It Means: The Ducks showed they can get by with different players leading the way. The duo of Dillon Brooks and Tyler Dorsey combined for just 12 points on 5-of-17 shooting, but Boucher and Ennis stepped up to get it done.
Quotable:
Head coach Dana Altman
On his biggest concerns
"For the most part, offensively we've got to get in a much better flow. The ball's hanging up, not moving very well. We had a few rushed shots. We've just got to do a better job."
On Boucher's contributions
"Chris just absolutely saved us. His activity on the boards, 19 rebounds, was the difference in the game. ... I couldn't take him off the floor, because I wasn't sure we could get a rebound without him."
Senior post Chris Boucher
On how the game developed
"We had a slow start, we had a lot of turnovers in a row. But the important thing is we fixed it up and we made plays for each other in the second half."
Notable: Rorie finished with 19 points on 9-of-20 shooting. … The Ducks won their 32nd straight home game, the third-longest active streak in the country behind Kansas (46) and South Dakota State (33). … The UO men are now 100-13 at home (.885) since moving in to Matthew Knight Arena in 2011. … Oregon moved to 23-5 all-time against Montana, but only evened the score in the last two meetings. The Grizzlies won in Eugene the last time they met, 68-55 on Nov. 23, 2009...Boucher's 19 rebounds was a Matthew Knight Arena record, breaking the old mark of 18 by Arsalan Kazemi (2-12-13 vs. Cal)...Boucher was one rebound shy of becoming the first Duck to record 20 points and 20 rebounds since the late Greg Ballard has 41 points and 20 rebounds in a five-overtime game at Cal (2-10-77)...Ennis' 22 points was a career high, one better than he scored at East Carolina while at Villanova in the 2012-13 season.
Up Next: The Ducks travel to Portland, where they'll host UNLV in the Moda Center on Saturday (8 p.m., ESPN2).
