EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 24 ranked Golden Bears were too much for the Ducks, as the Oregon women's basketball team lost, 74-59, to Cal on Thursday night at Matthew Knight Arena.
The 10th-place Ducks dropped to 12-16 (5-12 Pac-12) with the loss while the third-place Golden Bears improved to 21-7 (13-4).
Stat Sheet: Jillian Alleyne had her 67th career double-double and NCAA-best 26th of the season with a season-high 33 points to go with 16 rebounds. Alleyne went 11-of-18 from the field and 11-of-12 at the free throw line. Jordan Loera added 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers, while Drea Toler notched six assists to pace the Ducks. Lexi Petersen added nine points.
How It Happened: Oregon was up early, 12-9 with 9:24 left in the first half as both teams struggled to shoot in the first 10 minutes. Cal went on a 9-0 run to take an 18-12 lead with 7:30 remaining after a three-pointer and a runner by Mercedes Jefflo. The Golden Bears were still up by six, 27-21, with 3:44 left in the half after Alleyne hit a jumper in the paint to give her 10 points in the game. Cal started the game by hitting four of its first 12 shots but went 14-of-20 to end the half and led, 38-24, at the break.
Alleyne scored the first nine points of the second half for the Ducks before Oregon cut the lead to single digits, 45-36, after Toler found Loera for a fast break three-pointer with 16:05 left in the game. It was a 10-point game before Cal's Gabby Green hit back-to-back threes and Courtney Range hit another for a 9-0 run and the Golden Bears led, 60-41, with 11:30 to play. Despite the best efforts of Alleyne on the offensive end, Cal continued to grow its lead before winning, 74-59.
