Colorado at Oregon - Quotes
02/19/15 | Men's Basketball
Dana Altman – Head Coach
On rebounding…
“They beat us in transition and that second half wasn't good. We didn't sprint back and get our defense put together. They sensed that and they killed us on the offensive glass. But Dwayne saved us there with 13 boards. We just didn't get those offensive boards to pay off, but neither did they. They had 20 offensive rebounds with only 12 points and we were 12-of-12. It just seemed like we were on defense so much because they'd get it and have it for a long possession.”
On Jordan Bell's defensive production…
“The first half, our defense was really good. I thought we contested threes really well, but our interior defense has been a problem because of our lack of size. If Jordan's not real active in there, then we've got real problems. He played 21 minutes and his activity was really good at times, and at other times it was not good.”
On ball movement…
“We've got to do a better job of ball movement in the second half. We got stagnant, and that's my fault. I didn't get them going quick enough.”
On Colorado…
“That's a big team. They've got everybody back. They struggled a bit without Scott, but they were picked pretty high. That's a talented group. Scott's got a real chance to be a pro. They've got big guys coming off the bench."
On preparing for Utah…
“We're going to face a bigger team with Utah. Size has given us problems. There's no hiding it. We just have to get tougher, meaner and figure out a way to take some of those easy buckets away.”
“Our guys are excited. They know we've got some deficiencies that we've got to get better at in a very short time. They know Utah's a very talented team. We'll be ready to play, but we're going to have to have a great effort. I told our guys that we played well for 25 minutes, but 25 isn't going to be good enough. We're going to have to play 40 minutes and we're going to have to play awfully well.”
Dwayne Benjamin – Forward, Junior
On overall performance…
“I think we played pretty well on defense. We played pretty tough on the boards.”
On moving the ball…
“We always move the ball prety well, but when we were down 11-4 it was basically rebounding. I think when they first came out they had four offensive rebounds. After that we really got in a fight and we rebounded better.”
On final push at the end…
“Just rebounding. They get a lot of their points from offensive rebounds, so we just focused on that towards the end.”
On defense…
“There is room for a lot of improvement. It's getting better everyday and it was better today than last game.We just want to improve and the next day in practice we will get better, again.”
Elgin Cook – Forward, Senior
On overall peformance…
“I think the first half we came out and got a lot of stops. We need to do better on transition defense.”
On getting things going after 11-4 deficit…
“We just rebounded the ball better and we got on offense and made shots. We were quick and got our heads up, so everybody was confident.”
Tad Boyle - Colorado Head Coach
On the last part of the first half…
“You (Colorado) jump out to an 11-4 lead, we start turning it over, they get back in the game and tie it up. Yeah, we dug ourselves a hole; we tried to get out of it in the second half. Our guys really battled in the second half, we guarded, but we couldn't finish possessions when we needed to. We got some stops; some critical stops, but we couldn't finish a possession.”
On cutting the lead to five…
“You got to finish those possessions, and we weren't able to do that. They had nine offensive (rebounds) in the second half, but we had 20 for the game, but you know, we're not shooting the ball very well.”
On Oregon's offense, was it lack of defense or their offense?...
“It was a combination of both. I look at our defensive numbers, they shoot 58 percent in the first half, and they shoot 24 percent in the second half. Quite a difference, but we're struggling to score the ball right now. It's been five games in a row we've been less than 40 percent.”
“Our guys fought, scratched and clawed. That's all you can ask for as a coach.”
