LAS VEGAS – The Oregon men's tennis team will be in the finals for both flights of singles and doubles after the Ducks put on another strong performance today at the Larry Easley Memorial Classic at the Feritta Tennis Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The day started with the double quarterfinals where both Duck duos competed. Top seed Bartosz Sawicki/Cormac Clissold put away Mesa CC's Linus Holthey/Max Wightman 8-5 to advance on to the semis. UO was unable to complete the sweep though as Jayson Amos/Ethan Young-Smith got tripped up by Oklahoma State pair Nathan Roper/Jurence Mendoza 8-6.
Singles play followed and the Ducks were dominant once again. Amos, who was the top seed in flight 1, won in three sets over UNLV's Ruben Alberts. After dropping the first set 6-4, Amos came back and took the next two 6-3, 7-5 to move onto tomorrow's final.
In flight 2, Sawicki and Young-Smith won their semifinal matches. Sawicki took down Jackson Lee of Northern Arizona in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 while Young-Smith won 6-4, 7-5 over UNLV's Richard Solberg.
The day then concluded with the doubles semifinals. There, Sawicki and Clissold won 8-4 over Grand Canyon pair Mitch Maroscher/Meidy Chazeau to secure their spot in tomorrow's final. They'll face off with Roper/Mendoza (Oklahoma State).
