QUOTES vs. Delaware State
12/20/14 | Men's Basketball
Dana Altman - Oregon Head Coach
On changes to the starting lineup..."The guys got off to a good start. I thought the lineup got off to a good start. I'm not sure exactly what the start was, but I thought the guys did a good job."
On experimenting with the starting five..."We don't have anything etched in stone. We may change every game. We don't have anyone who has separated themselves in practice, and we don't have anyone who has really separated themselves in games so we may change it every game."
On Casey Benson's job as the starting point guard..."I thought he did alright...had a couple of bad turnovers, but seven assists was pretty good."
On Jordan Bell's performance..."I thought he did some good things defensively in particular. Blocking four shots made up for four other people's mistakes. I liked his activity; he just has to get more in tune offensively, but he did a lot of good things."On upcoming game against UC Santa Barbara...
"Santa Barbara is a really good team, very experienced and very well coached. Their power ranking is higher than ours. Theyh've been to Kansas, They've lost to Colorado State in the Great Alaskan Shootout championship and they've lost in overtime to SMU at SMU. They are a very experienced road team and we will have to play very well to beat them."
Casey Benson – Oregon Guard, Freshman
On starting the game strong…
“We wanted to come out with a ton of energy. It started defensively when we got stops and we were able to get out in transition. Our focus was getting stops and bringing a ton of energy and having a good start to the game.”
On slowing down Amere May…
“I think everybody that guarded him did a tremendous job on him, just trying to make it tough. Obviously he came in having 48 the last game so we knew he could really score the basketball. With guys like that we just want to make it tough on him.”
On the progression of the team…
“We just want to continue to get better. We're always working to get better. We're not satisfied right now, but we're just going to continue working hard.”
Ahmaad Rorie – Oregon Guard, Freshman
On the defensive effort…
“I think our effort was pretty good at the start of the game. The new starting lineup came out with a lot of energy and we've been lacking that in all of our other games, but the second half we could have had a lot better effort.”
On the confidence in the locker room right now…
“We're pretty confident, but we just have to keep getting better. We have to keep playing together and keep fighting for the whole game -- for the whole 40 minutes. I think we do a good job for a little bit of the game, but we have to do it for more.”
Keith Walker - Delaware State Head Coach
On adjustments made in the second half…
"I think we made the adjustments we had to make. That defensive pressure Oregon showed that they were prepared for us. We had to make adjustments on the offensive end, and I think we made those adjustments in the second half and the guys were getting better looks at the basket."
On Mrdjan Gasevic's early foul trouble…
"We came in already undermanned, because our big starting guy wasn't here with us. That hurt, especially as small as we are, it made us even smaller when we had to bench him. Like I said, Oregon did a very good job in exploiting that and taking advantage of that."
On how much did previous road wins prepare for today's game...
"Again this is team that's gone through a lot of adversity. The way we've come through, the way we've played, I think it showed the character of this team. I just think that as the year progresses we're going to get better. Like I've been telling everybody, this is still a work in progress but we're going to get better and better."
