Oregon vs. BYU Postgame Quotes
12/22/13 | Men's Basketball
Oregon Head Coach Dana Altman
On the team's overall performance...
"Well, we have done this a couple of times. We put ourselves in a tough position and had a couple of bad turnovers in the first half. But our guys kept playing. We found a way to tie it up and got two big offensive rebounds in overtime. We got outplayed for a large part of the game."
On shot selection...
"We took a lot of bad shots. We were shooting quick and put ourselves in that position. They were scoring easily and couldn't string stops together."
On the defense in general...
" We played better in the second half but we have a long way to go. We got a lot of deficiencies to address. Our guys magnified those issues with their shot selection."
OREGON PLAYER QUOTES
#12 Jason Calliste
On what he learned from this game…
“That we can fight through adversity and that when push comes to shove, we have each other's backs no matter what.”
On how the game felt…
“First of all it felt like we were down by 50. We just knew we had to get stops and rebounds. Pretty much that would dictate whether or not we would win or lose the game. And by the end of the game we got stops, we got rebounds, we got free throws and won the game.”
On the end of the game…
“This is exactly how we want to play in the last four or five possessions. We just have to lock up in passing lanes and pressuring the ball. We just have to play.”
#3 Joseph Young
On what he learned from this game…
“We have a lot of players that can come in defensively. I wasn't really 100 percent on defense today. We have Jason (Calliste) and Damyean Dotson who can come in to help us out. Overall, it was a good game. We overcame adversity and that's what good teams do.”
“We just keep hoopin'. We stay as a family and we stay as one unit. But in the end, we can't start off the games from behind because when five of the seven games are away with the crowd against us, oit's going to be kind of tough to do what we did tonight.”
On the fouls…
“Move on to the next play and if they didn't call the foul just run back on defense. We were just frustrated and we wanted to get the ball.”
#21 Damyean Dotson
On driving the ball the the rim more in the second half…
“That was just us being way more aggressive. Not settling for threes and just attacking them because we were running pick and roll and the pick man wasn't stepping up so we just drove it at them. Coach told us to stop shooting so many threes and try to get to the rim, and that's what we did.”
On what he learned from the game…
“Everybody needs to be on the boards in defense. We need to just continue to get stops and we'll be a great team.”
On the game…
“That's probably the most exciting game I've ever played in. I'm proud of everybody and how we competed, and how we came out with a win.”
BYU Head Coach Dave Rose
On his team's mindset going into overtime…
“The most important thing was to get everyone's minds right. We were lucky to be in overtime instead of feeling sorry for ourselves. He could have made both free throws and ended the game right there. Our guys came out with the right mindset in overtime and got a quick score. The tough part of the game is trying to get stops.”
Inaudible question…
“We played hard enough to win. We competed. We just need to play better and make plays all throughout the game.”
On defending Johnathan Loyd…
“He got loose. He's deal is to find shooters. He found Calliste and Young quite a few times on penetration when we had to help. He was a real catalyst.”
