Oregon vs. UC Irvine Postgame Quotes
12/18/13 | Men's Basketball
Head Coach Dana Altman
On the defensive performance…
“Our energy for almost the entire game was really good. [We had] 13 steals. We got some hands on some passes. Communication at times still was good but the energy and effort was really good… With our added depth, it is a little easier to extend the defense.”
On what he thought of Dominic Artis' performance…
“He was a little rusty but I thought he played okay. He moved the ball. [He had] 3 assists, 1 turnover. I thought he did some good things defensively. He's just got to get himself in game shape… I'm glad we got him a lot of minutes.”
On what he thought of Ben Carter's performance…
“I thought he made some good plays. Thought his activity was good… For his 19 minutes I thought it was a good ball game.”
His thoughts on the ball movement…
"I thought all the guys did a good job moving the ball. We took three or four questionable shots but not too many. Our ball movement was pretty good. We didn't attack the zone. A few possessions got caught standing up but for the most part I thought our ball movement was very good.”

On the game...
"I think we had one of our best active games on the defensive end. We had 13 steals. Coach thought we did good, but there's more work to be done and we'll work hard until we do it."
On Coach saying the team played well...
"Everybody was surprised, but at the same time we can't get comfortable. We just have to get better as the season proceeds. We just follow his instructions and follow his lead."
On playing with Oregon...
"The tempo is way more faster. I feel way more active on defense."

On Ben Carter and Dominic Artis being back...
Ben (Carter) is a pretty mature player. Defensively he get's it, and I really think that really helped us out today. He rebounds the job well and that makes my job a lot easier. And so did (Dominic Artis). (Dominic) rebounded the ball tremendously today. He really picked the spots and found guys in the right area. I think in a game or two, he'll be right in the system."
On having too many guys in the rotation...
"Having a lot of talent never seemed to be a problem on any team I've ever played on, but we'll see. I think we have the right blend of guys so I don't think it should be an issue."
On UC Irvine...
"The team was fairly hard to guard because they have the big fella and they're versatile, but we were able to switch ball screens here and there. But we plugged in two really mature guys so there was really no learning gap. We were just getting (Ben) and (Dominic) acclimated to our style."
