Cambier Suffers 1st Loss in Day 3 of ITA NW Regionals
10/21/13 | Men's Tennis
MORAGA, Calif. -- The University of Oregon men's tennis team competed Sunday in day three of the UTSA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships as the Ducks' lone remaining main draw competitors suffered setbacks. Sophomore Brent Chin led the way with a singles victory in consolation play.
After opening the fall season with a seven match win streak, senior Robin Cambier dropped his first match in the singles main draw round of 16. Meeting California's Filip Bergevi with a ticket to the quarterfinals on the line, Cambier couldn't extend his unbeaten streak. Cambier fell short 6-3, 6-4.
Cambier and sophomore Kevin Farin also reached the round of 16 in doubles play. They were forced to withdraw from their match with a team from Davidson due to injury. Cambier and Farin won their first five doubles matches of the season.
Chin picked up Oregon's lone victory of the day, earning a straight set victory against Gonzaga's Joey Brandt. Chin won 6-4, 7-5, to improve his fall singles record to 3-2 and advance on the consolation side.
Freshman Alex Marcinkowski also competed in consolation singles, falling to Gonzaga's Hayden Smith 6-2, 6-1.
Action resumes from Moraga, Calif., Monday at 9 a.m. (PT) with doubles quarterfinals and two rounds of singles.
Oregon returns to action next with the Easley Memorial Classic from Nov. 1-3 in Las Vegas, Nev.
