ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 13 University of Oregon softball team (18-4) topped lllinois State (11-8) Sunday by a 6-0 score in six innings, and beat its fourth NCAA tourney returnee of the weekend in final day action in the Citrus Classic at Disney World.

Oregon struck for one run in the first and third innings, and two in the second and fifth innings in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Conversely, the Redbirds stranded nine runners on base, including three in the fourth before senior reliever Brittany Rumfelt got out of the jam with a strikeout.

Duck sophomore starter Jessica Moore (10-2) got the win, and struck out three and walked none in her three innings. Rumfelt added her first save of the season with her three innings of relief, struck out four, walked one and scattered three hits.

Four Ducks banged out multiple hits - senior Monique Fuiava (3-for-3), senior Kaitlin Vitek (2-for-2), sophomore Allie Burger (2-for-2) and freshman Courtney Ceo (2-for-3).

ISU starter Taylor Baxter (3-2) struck out two, walked none, gave up seven hits, and all three of her runs allowed were earned. Megan Warner worked the final 3.1 innings, whiffed one, walked one, gave up four hits, and one of her three runs allowed were earned.

The Ducks opened the day with a 2-1 win over another Illinois (9-6) and staved off a bases-loaded rally in the seventh inning by the returning NCAA returnee.

UO scored its runs on a first-inning Kaylan Howard sacrifice fly and fifth-inning homer by Fuiava that moved her into a tie all-time for UO career-wiswe. Remaining perfect on the season, junior starter Samantha Skillingstad (6-0) struck out seven, walked two, allowed one hit and no runs.

Earlier in the tourney, UO beat North Carolina, 1-0, in eight innings, and came back to beat No. 17 Louisiana-Lafayette, 5-2, with four runs in the seventh inning Saturday. UO also fell to Virginia, 3-2, on Friday, and No. 1 Alabama, 10-0, on Saturday.

For the six-game roadswing, Fuiava paced UO in hitting (.545), home runs (1), total bases (10), runs (4), slugging (.909) and walks (3). Three other multi-game starters topped .300 - Ceo (.471, 8 H, 1 SB), Vitek (.400, 4 H, 2 2B, 1 HR, 9 TB, .900 SLG) and Burger (.333, 5 H, 3 RBI).

On the mound, Moore went 3-1 with a 1.72 ERA and 23 strikeouts in her 20.1 innings pitched, while Rumfelt didn't allow an earned run in her five innings and recorded nine strikeouts and only two walks.

Looking ahead, UO has nearly two weeks off from action to focus on dead week and final exams before their home opener doubleheader against Weber State, Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m. UO then faces Utah State in a doubleheader the next day on Sunday, March 20 at noon.
