Oregon vs Duquesne, 77-75
March 21, 2011
Matthew Knight Arena- Eugene, Ore.
-----------------------------------------
Oregon Head Coach Dana Altman
On the game:
“We survived them (Duquesne) shooting 13 out of 28 three's. We just made plays and got to the free throw line even though we didn't shoot three's as well as they did. It was a big stat that we out rebounded them by 10, I was happy about that.”
On starting off slow:
“We got off to a slow start tonight, but I thought we did a good job after that. We had a lot of leadership, Joevan (Catron) has been a leader all year and the guys know he wants to play and win so they picked it up.”
On the tournament feel now:
“Garrett (Sim) had a big ball game tonight and E.J. (Singler) as well. We have young guys doing big things for us right now. We started this tournament out playing for Joevan and Jay-R (Strowbridge), but now it's good experience for all our guys.”
On the fans:
“The fans really helped us a lot, they're great coming out on a Monday night and supporting us, it really helped.”
On what's next:
“We'll watch film tonight and take a look tomorrow as well. Boise State has been on a roll lately; winning 10 of their last 11 games with big wins on the road.”
-----------------------------------------
Senior Forward Joevan Catron
On the game:
“It was a great team effort tonight. I was being double and triple teamed so I knew that guys were left open on the arc.”
On the last play of the game:
“I was just thinking, secure the ball and we will win. I told my team that I would grab the rebound.”
On being triple teamed during the game:
“I wasn't ready for it at first. Coach told me to bend my knees and make my moves faster. I was just going to have to get to the basket faster between being double and triple teamed.”
On continuing playing in the CBI tournament:
“It's great that we're still playing, we just have to keep rolling. It's great to get the city of Eugene out during Spring Break to watch us play.”
In regards to possibility of being his last game:
“I had faith in my team that we'd pull it out. I was a little nervous that it would be all over, but we made free throws down the stretch and pulled it out.”
On what's next for the team:
“By this time in the season there's nothing you haven't seen, we will just watch film to help prepare for the next team. We just have to apply our principle and play our game.”
