Oregon Loses at Washington State, 77-63

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The University of Oregon men's basketball lost to Washington State, 77-63, on Saturday night in Pullman, Wash. The Ducks dropped to 7-9 overall (0-4 in Pac-10 play) with the loss, while the Cougars improved to 12-4 on the year (2-2 in conference play).
Junior guard Garrett Sim scored a team-high 13 points, while freshman guard Johnathan Loyd added 11 points and junior guard Teondre Williams had 10.
Four Washington State players scored in double figures, led by Klay Thompson who had a game-high 16 points. Reggie Moore added 15 points and five assists for the Cougars.
Oregon returns to action Jan. 13 with a home game against USC. That game will be the first played in UO's new Matthew Knight Arena.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Oregon shot below 40 percent from the field for the sixth straight game. UO was 24-of-71 on field goals (33.8 percent), 10-of-32 on 3-pointers (31.3 percent).
- Washington State made 43.6 percent of its field goals, hitting 24-of-55 attempts.
- The Ducks are now 1-8 overall when they have a worse shooting percentage than their opponent. It was the sixth straight game UO's opponent shot a better percentage from the floor.
- Ducks largest lead of the contest was eight points (17-9) with 11:53 in the first half. The last lead UO held was 19-18 through the 7:23 mark in the first.
- The Ducks didn't trail over the first 10 minutes of the game. The Cougars took their first lead with 7:22 in the first stanza, a 20-19 advantage after a pair of free throws by Reggie Moore (who went on to score seven consecutive points to give WSU a 25-19 edge).
- Washington State went on a 21-4 run over a seven minute span, largely without leading scorer Klay Thompson on the floor (two personal fouls). Oregon led 17-9 with 11:53 in the first, WSU went on to take a 32-21 with 4:08 in the half.
- Oregon returned to the floor after halftime with nine healthy bodies. Joevan Catron and Jeremy Jacob both sat the second half with injuries. Catron played 12 minutes while Jacob was limited to six minutes.
- Junior guard Malcolm Armstead sat with an injury. It was the first time in his UO career that Armstead hasn't suited up (playing in 47 consecutive games, a starter in 41 of those outings).
- Sophomore forward E.J. Singler (seven points and seven rebounds) fouled out with eight minutes in the second half, his first foul-out of the season. It was the third time in his career Singler has fouled out, with all three coming against Washington State. Singler had registered four fouls in a game on six occasions this season.
- Juniors Nicholas Fearn (16 minutes) and Tyrone Nared (27 minutes), pressed into duties because of the injuries, each played a career-highs in minutes. Nared also established a new career-high with seven rebounds and added seven points in coming off the bench.
