CATRON AVERAGING CAREER BESTS
Senior forward Joevan Catron has now played in 109 career games averaging career-bests for points (16.8 ppg), rebounds (6.4 rpg) and field goal shooting percentage (.540, 75-of-139). He leads the team in scoring, rebounding, shooting percentage, field goals attempted and field goals made, and is third in minutes played (26.7 mpg).
Catron, who was awarded a medical hardship in the offseason, has scored in double-figures in 11 of the 13 games in 2010-11. Four of his five career 20-point games occurred this season. He's led UO in scoring 12 times in his career, nine of those have come in 2010-11.
Catron has scored 61.6 percent of his points after halftime, with 135 of his 219 total points coming during the final 20 minutes (and OT). In an overtime win over North Dakota State, he tallied 16 of his career-best 27 points in the second half. Catron also scored 18 of his 25 points in the second half of a home loss to San Jose State.
UO'S PAC-10 STATISTICAL RANKINGS
Oregon compares favorably to their Pac-10 counterparts in several statistical categories. UO is second in free throw shooting (.719, 192-of-267), third in steals (8.6 spg, 112) and turnover margin (+4.3, 164-220), and fourth in offensive rebounding (12.4 orpg, 161).
Senior forward Joevan Catron ranks third in both scoring (16.8 ppg, 219) and offensive rebounds (3.2 orpg, 41). Sophomore forward E.J. Singler is third in free throw shooting percentage (.825, 33-of-40) and eighth in blocks (1.2 bpg, 15). Junior guard Malcolm Armstead is tied for third in steals (2.0 spg, 26) and eighth in assists (3.7 apg, 48).
SINGLER STEPS INTO KEY ROLE
Sophomore forward E.J. Singler leads the team in blocks (1.2 bpg, 15), while ranking second on the team in scoring (11.6 ppg, 151), field goal percentage (.505, 51-of-101), 3-point field goal percentage (.390, 16-of-41) and total rebounding (6.2 rpg, 81). Singler has reached double figures in scoring 10 times in 13 games. The Medford, Ore., product had opened the season by scoring in double figures in each of the first seven games.
In the near upset of No. 9 Missouri, Singler tallied a career-best 19 points to go with nine rebounds. Last week he posted an 18-point, 17-rebound (career high) effort in the blowout win over Willamette. That single-game rebound total ties Singler for the top performance amongst Pac-10 players this season (with Arizona State's Kyle Cain, 17 vs. Houston Baptist, 11-25-10).
LAST TIME OUT: ARIZONA 76, OREGON 57
Junior forward Jeremy Jacob's breakout performance was not enough for Oregon as Arizona spoiled the Ducks' Pac-10 Conference opener, downing the hosts 76-57 on Thursday night. Jacob was the only Duck to score in double figures. He also tied with sophomore forward E.J. Singler and senior forward Joevan Catron with a team-best four rebounds.
The Wildcats built an 11-2 lead in the first four minutes and UA led by as many as 17 in the first half. Arizona shot 50 percent from the floor in the opening frame to take a 37-22 lead into the break. UO clawed back to within 12 at 52-40 with 12:05 remaining in the second stanza, but UA did not allow the lead to get any smaller the rest of the way. The Ducks dropped their third straight game, falling to 7-6 overall and 0-1 in league play. Arizona improved to 12-2, 1-0.
