
Ducks Lose Heartbreaker to UCSB

EUGENE, Ore. - It came down to a tiebreaker in the final match but UC Santa Barbara won 4-3 in a four hour marathon of a match on Friday night inside the Student Tennis Center.
Oregon won the doubles point but UCSB took four of six singles matches to hand the Ducks their first loss this season in Eugene.
Freshman Ayrton Wibowo won in dominating fashion for Oregon, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 singles but the final three matches all went into third sets to decide the outcome of the dual.
Ric Mortera, playing in his first duals singles match of the season after overcoming injury early in the year, battled back after losing the first set to force a tiebreaker at No. 5 singles. Mortera jumped out a to an early lead in the tiebreaker but UCSB's Josh Finkelstein rallied to take the tiebreaker 8-6 and the match 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.
Jose' Izquierdo dropped his opening set as well but won 6-7, 6-4, 6-0 after forcing the third set.
The match was decided at No. 1 singles when Marcos Verdasco and Philip Therp needed more than just a third set to settle thier match. After a back-and-forth affair in the extra frame which was tied 6-6, Therp won the final two points to win the tiebreaker 8-6 and the match 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).
The Ducks will look to rebound from the tough loss on Sunday when they take on No. 41 ranked New Mexico.
