Johnson Explodes in 95-68 Win Over Portland

EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Amanda Johnson continued her assault on the record books as the 6-foot-2 forward led Oregon with a career and game high 32 points in an 95-68 victory over Portland on Wednesday night at McArthur Court.
The Ducks are now 6-1 on the season and off to their best start since 2006-07, while Portland falls to 3-3 on the year.
Johnson's scored 32 on 13-of-18 shooting, including a career-best 4-of-5 mark from beyond the three-point line.
The Santa Rosa, Calif., native's 32 points and 13 made field goals were not only single season highs for Oregon, but for the Pac-10 as well. Johnson added a game-high 11 rebounds for her team leading fifth double-double of the season.
Three other Ducks finished in double figures as junior Victoria Kenyon scored a career-high 13 points, draining a career-best three three-pointers – all in the first half.
Senior guard Micaela Cocks added 12 points, while senior guard Taylor Lilley chipped in 11.
The Ducks shot 48.6 percent from the floor, including an outlandish 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from three-point range.
Oregon scored 29 points off Portland's 24 turnovers, and the Ducks bench outscored the Pilots 23-6.
Starting point guard Nia Jackson set her career high in assists for the second consecutive game with a game-high eight assists, while Nicole Canepa added nine points, nine rebounds and a career-high tying three blocks.
Portland was led by Laiken Dollente's 23 points and six assists. Oregon held the Pilots to .384 shooting and forced Portland into 24 turnovers. Tara Cronin added 14 for the Pilots, while Lauren Angel scored 11 and Alexi Gannis added 10.
Oregon shot .500 (18-of-36) in the first half on its way to a 49-32 lead at the break.
The Ducks' defense held Portland to a .345 percentage from the floor in the first half as the Pilots committed 14 turnovers.
Johnson led the Ducks with 15 at half, while Kenyon knocked down three first-half buckets from long distance on her way to 11 points. Jackson had five assist in the first 20 minutes as well.
Dollente led Portland with 14 points at the break.
Notes: Micaela Cocks first half three-pointer, extended her streak of games with a trey to 23…Cocks is the only UO player to reach double figures in all seven games this season… in the first half alone, Victoria Kenyon tied a career high with 11 points and knocked down a career best three three-pointer. She ended the game with a career-high 13 points…Johnson's 13 made field goals were also a career high and a single-season high in the Pac-10…Johnson's 32 points are the most for a Pac-10 player this season…this is the sixth time Oregon has scored at least 86 points this season.

Oregon will host undefeated Boise State at 7 p.m., Friday, and Long Beach State at 2 p.m., Sunday. It will mark Oregon's final home games until opening Pac-10 play against Washington on Jan. 1.

The Ducks will close the non-conference portion of their schedule on the road at Georgia Tech (Dec. 16), Wyoming (Dec. 20) and Utah (Dec. 22).
