Oregon Head Coach Paul Westhead
On the tournament overall:
“It was a successful weekend. Three games, two wins. I'd like it to have been more, but it could have been less. I'm happy with today's performance.”
“Today was a little bit of a pride game- to show we are not affected by the previous days' game. We came back and played our normal style of basketball, if not picked it up some.”
“Playing three days in a row is not easy, and I made sure to remind them all that their effort was really good.”
On improving:
“We can get better; we aren't well oiled yet. We are ready to step up and improve things.”
On next week:
“I told them the best way to start getting better is to take tomorrow off, so that's what we are going to do. But, we have three games next week and we have got to be prepared for those.”
On the pace:
“The tempo is dictated by the defense. Our tempo created a pace to get the fast break action going. A big part of our offense is getting the receiver open, and that delivered today.”
“We got out in attacking mode which made the ball movement better, and created a faster pace. If we aren't pushing the ball fast enough, that's our fault.”
On Nia Jackson:
“She had terrific speed today. I told her before the game, 'They'll play off of your pace.' The point guard really dictates the pace. She did a nice job today.”
On the press in the second half:
“Fatigue sets in- that's part of what our presses do. Once we sustain the press for a while, the opposition starts to struggle. I think it was a combination of their tiredness and our relentless attack.”
On the second half:
“We stayed with our game plan. Coach tells us that there will be a breaking point.”
On yesterday:
“We're all disappointed with last night, it doesn't feel good. But today, Coach told us a story from his past, which created a good atmosphere. He showed his experience, and how we can move on from the past and see what we can do now. It worked for me- I didn't think about [yesterday] again.”
“Personally, I feel good. We still have a lot to improve on with our press. We want to create more opportunities, read where the pass is going, and penalize the other team.”
