Women Win Two Straight at Home

?EUGENE, Ore.,-?Oregon's Anna Powaska continues to lead the Ducks with steady victories and senior leadership. The Oregon women's tennis team looked confident coming into tonights win against the University of San Francisco (2-2) at the Student Tennis Center Monday evening. After playing Friday night against Utah and then defeating Cal Poly Sunday afternoon, the Ducks still looked fresh out on the courts.?
The Ducks dominated all three doubles matches, putting them ahead early with a crucial point 1-0. Oregon's Celine Rolly and Stephanie McFarlane finished up first in the No. 1 spot beating Jennifer Lee Heinser and Emma Taylor 8-2. In the No. 2 spot Anna Powaska and Siobhan Cavan defeated Mylene Martin and Jenny Sperry in a close match 8-5. Carmen Seremeta and Mimi Songersermsawas stole the last match against Sarah Oudomvilay and Mekpoh 8-6.
It was a competive round of singles for the women of Oregon but the Ducks were able to come away victorious. Anna Powaska extrended her winning streak to 3-0 in singles play easily defeating Heinser 6-1, 6-1 in two straight sets. In the No. 5 spot Cavan beat Oudemvilay 6-3, 6-4.
Jessy Mekpoh was the first Don to come away with a victory defeating Mimi Songsermsawas in the No. 6 spot 6-4, 6-0.
Stephanie McFarlane proved her competive play when she battled after being down 3-0 early but ended up defeating Jenny Sperry in two straight sets 7-5, 6-3.?
San Francisco made a slight come back in the last two matches when Mylene Martin defeated Carmen Seremeta 6-4, 6-3 and Jennifer Lee Heinser beat Celine Rolly 6-1,1-6, 6-7 .
The women are now 2-0 in their last 2 matches at home and look to extend that streak when they face Boise State Feb. 6 at the Student Tennis Center.
