? The Oregon volleyball team
opened the Baylor Invitational on Friday afternoon with a three-game sweep (33-31,
30-17, 30-25 ) of Mississippi State
at the Ferrell Center.
The Ducks are on a four-match winning streak and are
undefeated in 2007, having not lost a game all season.
For the fourth consecutive match junior Gorana Maricic
reached double figures in kills, with 12. Sophomore Sonja Newcombe also had 12
kills and three blocks.
Freshman Rachel Morris set a new career high with 20 assists
in the match, while sophomore Nevena Djordjevic added 17.
Oregon hit
.237 in the match, while the Bulldogs (2-2) were held to a .130 attacking
percentage.
Oregon also
set a new season high with 10 total blocks, led by senior Karen Waddington (6)
and sophomore Neticia Enesi (4). Junior Katie Swoboda totaled 18 digs.
In the first game, Oregon
started off slow as Mississippi State
rallied off three straight points to open the match. The Ducks trailed by as
many as six (23-17) their biggest deficit of the match, but were able to come
back and take a 27-25 lead, backed by two service aces from Swoboda and two
kills from Maricic. With Oregon
serving for game point, Waddington responded with a solo block to put the first
game to rest.
With things back on track for Oregon,
the second game of the match was much different. Oregon
opened up a 10-3 lead and picked up a double digit lead, 14-4. Enesi had five
kills and one service ace in the game.
The Ducks will end the tournament tomorrow playing Stephen
F. Austin (1-2) at 9 a.m. (PST) and
host Baylor at 5 p.m. (PST). Oregon

QUICK QUACKS: The match was Oregon's first against an SEC
opponent since 1999, when the Ducks rallied from a two-game deficit to defeat
Alabama (3-15, 7-15, 15-11, 15-11, 15-11)...head coach Jim Moore is 25-1 in
non-conference action in his three seasons at Oregon...Oregon's stretch of not
dropping a game in its last 12 is the longest since 2002, when the Ducks won
12-straight games through the first five matches of the year.
