Ducks Shutout in Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The No. 75 Oregon men's tennis team fell, 7-0, to Washington Friday evening at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.
The 15th-ranked Huskies (8-1) won their sixth consecutive match while Oregon falls to 7-4 after suffering defeat in its last two matches.
"I was pleased with how we played today, despite the team result," director of tennis Nils Schyllander said. "We kept the match tight throughout, Washington's experience just gave them the ability to win the big points and that's something we're still developing."
Washington began the day by sweeping the doubles round to earn the point. Oregon's Geoff Embry and Alexander Cornelissen fell, 8-3, in number one doubles to Washington's Daniel Chu and Alex Slovic.
Slovic, the nation's 83rd-ranked singles player, defeated the Ducks' Marcos Verdasco in number one singles, 7-6 (4), 6-3.
Cornelissen dropped his second position singles match to the Huskies' Andy Kuharszky by a score of 6-3, 6-3. In the third spot, Oregon's Ric Mortera returned from an injury but lost, 6-2, 6-1, to Chu.
In the most tightly contested match of the day, Oregon's Mike Myrhed won the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second, 6-7 (2), and losing a tiebreaker, 7-9, in number four singles against Washington's Derek Drabble.
The Ducks will look to get back in the winner's column Saturday, as they stay in Seattle to take on the 50th-ranked San Diego State Aztecs, losers of three straight (2-3).
