
Freshmen Lead Ducks To Win

EUGENE ? The University of Oregon's women's tennis team relied on wins from three true freshman to earn a 4-3 victory over the Washington State Cougars, Sunday afternoon.
The Ducks claimed the doubles point as well as the three victories in singles. Dominika Dieskova and Ceci Olivos nearly shut out Maria Ring and Amy Toth winning, 8-1. Oregon also got a win at number three as Anna Powaska and Carmen Seremeta defeated a pair of Aleksandra's in WSU's Cecik and Stefanova, 8-3.
The Ducks suffered tough losses in singles play notably when #90 Ekaterina Burduli upset #40 Dieskova, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. Toth also scored a victory over the Ducks when she defeated Powaska, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Oregon's first singles win and the first off the courts was Claudia Hirt who stormed through two quick sets defeating Stefanova, 6-2, 6-1. The second singles win came at the racket of Ceci Olivos who also made quick work in defeating Cecik, 6-0, 6-3.
Seremeta closed the match in a three set masterpiece. Marjolein van de Ven won the first set, 6-3. Seremeta fought back to win the second set, 7-6 (7-2). In the third set Seremeta fell behind, 4-3, before storming through the remainder of the match and winning, 6-4.
The Ducks return to action next weekend as they travel to Ojai, Calif., to compete in the Pac-10 championships, beginning Thursday.
