SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The University of Oregon women's tennis team suffered their first road loss of the season Monday afternoon, falling to red-hot San Diego State 4-3 in San Diego, at the Aztec Tennis Center.
The Ducks got the match off on the right foot winning the doubles point in solid fashion, as Dominika Dieskova and Ceci Olivos shut out Dita Hauerlandova and Sisse Nielsen, winning 8-0.
The Ducks also won at number three doubles when Anna Leksinska and Anna Powaska teamed up to face Esther Cadua and Milana Yusupov, winning 8-3.
The Ducks suffered their only loss in doubles play at number two, where Monica Hoz de Vila and Claudia Hirt were defeated, 8-3 by Alesya Vidov and Eliska Krausova.
The Ducks won two of the six singles matches winning at the top and bottom of the lineup.
Dominika Dieskova, the No. 44 ranked singles player in the country, won her match with Hauerlandova in three tough sets, winning the first one 6-3. Dieskova slipped a little in the second allowing the Aztec senior back into the match as she snatched the second set 6-4. Dieskova rallied to take the third set, 6-2, and win the match.
At the number six spot Monica Hoz de Vila was victorious in straight sets over Yuki Hagiwara, winning 6-2, 6-4.
In the middle of the lineup Oregon lost four three-set matches, ultimately costing the match for the Ducks.
At number two Vidov fell behind a set to Powaska as the Duck sophomore rolled up a victory, 6-2. Vidov, the Aztec junior, then won two straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 giving her the victory.
At number three Ceci Olivos fell in the first set by a 6-3 margin. She rallied and took the second set 7-5, but was unable to capitalize on the momentum and lost the third set 6-3. Another Duck freshman, Carmen Seremeta, fell victim to an Aztec three-set stunner. Seremeta like Olivos won the middle set against Yusupov. The Aztec freshman picked up the first, 6-4, before Seremeta took the second by an identical 6-4 mark. The match was decided when Yusupov won a tight 7-6 third set.
In the tightest match of the day and the clincher, Anna Leksinska took a first set victory over Cadua, 7-6. Cadua was then able to come back however and edge Leksinska 7-5, 7-6 in the final two sets giving San Diego State the hard-fought victory.
