
Softball's Pac-10 Opener Vs. Arizona State Suspended Due To Rain

EUGENE ? Inclement weather prevented the University of Oregon softball team from completing its Pac-10 season-opener vs. No. 9 Arizona State Friday afternoon at Howe Field. The game was halted in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Sun Devils leading 2-1. Oregon was up to bat and had runners on first and second with one out.
The game will resume in the bottom of the fifth inning when Oregon travels to Tempe on May 12.
Arizona State loaded the bases in the second inning and third baseman Bianca Cruz drove in Rhiannon Baca with a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Sun Devils the first lead of the game, 1-0.
Oregon quickly tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning after senior Beth Boskovich led off the inning with a double down the left field line and later scored on a double by freshman catcher Courtney Shlee.
Baca led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a single to left field and pinch runner Himmita Hixon advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Bridgette Caron. Hixon went to third on a passed ball by Shlee and then scored on a second passed by to give Arizona State a 2-1 lead.
The Ducks came up in the fifth and Arizona State starter Desiree Serrano walked Oregon senior Dani Baird and Sari-Jane Jenkins to put runners at first and second with one out before the game was called.
