Softball Falls 4-1 To No. 3 Arizona

EUGENE ? The third-ranked University of Arizona softball team rebounded from a loss to Oregon State Friday by defeating the University of Oregon softball team 4-1 in a Pac-10 Conference game at Howe Field Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 30-4 overall, 1-1 Pac-10. Oregon's game vs. Arizona State on Friday was suspended due to rain and the Ducks are now 17-11 overall, 0-1 Pac-10.
Arizona's offense struck in the top of the second inning as they loaded the bases with one out. Leadoff hitter Autumn Champion singled up the middle to score Callista Balko for the first run and second baseman Chelsie Mesa made it 3-0 with a two-RBI double to left field that scored Adrienne Acton and Sam Banister. Kristie Fox extended Arizona's lead to 4-0 with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Oregon responded in the bottom of the fourth as senior first baseman Beth Boskovich singled and scored the Ducks' first run of the game on an RBI double by sophomore Lovena Chaput to make it 4-1. It was as close as the Ducks got as Arizona starter Alicia Hollowell, who made her first appearance since March 19, allowed just one hit over the final three innings of play. Hollowell improved to 15-1 with the win while Oregon starter Alicia Cook (2-2) took the loss.
