No. 2 Cal Tops Ducks, 1-0
05/08/05 | Softball
Berekely - Cal shortstop Chelsea Spencer hit a first-inning home run off Oregon's Amy Harris and it proved to be all the second-ranked Bears would need to defeat the Ducks 1-0 in a game that was delayed by rain for almost 50 minutes in the fifth inning. The loss drops Oregon to 32-22 overall, 5-13 in Pac-10 play.
Harris went the distance on the mound for the Ducks for the second straight day. The junior from Eugene allowed just three hits but dropped her second 1-0 decision at the hand of the Golden Bears this weekend.
The Ducks did threaten several times during the afternoon, especially in the fifth. With runners on first and second and one out, Cal starting pitcher Kelly Anderson struck out pinch hitter Dani Baird and Beth Boskovich to end the inning. On the afternoon, Oregon stranded seven runners.
Oregon concludes its regular season slate next weekend when it visits No. 13 UCLA on Thursday, then flies to Seattle to take on the No. 22 Washington Huskies on Friday and Saturday.
