Men's Tennis Drops 5-2 Match to ASU

EUGENE ? It was another up-and-down performance for the UO men's tennis team Friday, as it fell to Arizona State, 5-2, at the Student Tennis Center. Seniors Manuel Kost and Sven Swinnen came away with both Oregon (7-14, 0-5) victories.
In doubles, ASU (7-11, 1-4) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning two of three matches. After playing together for much of last season, Swinnen and Arron Spencer seem to be back on track, improving to 7-3 in the dual play with a win over the Sun Devils' Clint Letcher and Jonathan Kinsella at No. 2.
The Ducks were a point or two away from turning the match in their favor, but Arizona State came away with four singles wins. No. 14 Swinnen upped his overall record to 22-6 ? tying a career-high ? with a win over ASU's Andy Colombo, 6-3, 7-6. With two duals and the postseason remaining, Swinnen has an excellent shot to become Oregon's all-time leader in single-season wins, needing three more to pass Dougal Williams (24-13-2, 1994-95).
Oregon's second win came by way of Kost, who cruised past Chris Biro, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 4 position.
The Ducks take on Arizona, tomorrow (Sat.) at 1 p.m., at the Student Tennis Center.
