EUGENE -- The University of Oregon men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 6-1 loss to No. 11 Washington Saturday. The Ducks (8-15, 1-6) stormed out to a 1-0 lead after winning two of three doubles matches. UW, however, proved to be too strong for the Ducks, as it won all six singles matches.
Oregon opened the match by grabbing the doubles point for the second consecutive contest. Thomas Bieri and Manuel Kost moved into a tied for sixth all-time with their 26th career doubles victory after defeating UW's Andy Kuharsky and Mike Ricks, 8-0, at No. 3. Sven Swinnen and Arron Spencer also produced their 26th career victory, clinching the doubles point with an 8-6 win at No. 2.
In singles, the momentum quickly swung back in favor of the Huskies (18-4, 6-1) as they regained the lead with straight set wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
No. 14 Swinnen fell to 23-7 overall with a three-set loss to UW's No. 19 Alex Vlaski, giving the Huskies a 3-1 lead.
Washington then clinched the match at No. 6 as Kuharsky slipped past UO's Vlad Pino, 7-6, 7-5.
Up next, the Ducks travel to Ojai, Calif., for the Pac-10 Championships, Thu.-Sun.
