Women's Tennis Makes it Seven in a Row

EUGENE ? The winning streak moves to seven as the University of Oregon women's tennis team (7-0, 0-0) defeated San Diego State, 4-3, Sunday at the Student Tennis Center. The Ducks won the doubles point and quickly recorded three singles victories to clinch the match.
In doubles, 45th-ranked Daria Panova and Dominika Dieskova improved to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in dual play with an 8-6 victory over San Diego State's Aleysa Vidov and Dita Hauerlandova. Oregon got their second and clinching victory from seniors Davina Mendiburu and Ester Bak at the No. 3 position. The duo also improved to 6-0 in dual play. Through seven matches, the Ducks are 19-2 in doubles play.
"I really feel good about where the team is at right now," Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander said. "On any given night, someone on this team steps up. Today our doubles teams won an important point while our top three singles positions played outstanding. The team is looking forward to next weekend against the Washington schools at home."
In singles, Oregon's top three positions all won decisively in straight sets. Panova, ranked No. 31, won her team-high sixth dual of the season, defeating Hauerlandova, 6-2, 6-1. Mendiburu improved to 13-1 overall on the season with a win at No. 3, while 34th-ranked Dieskova took care of Vidoz, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2.
The Aztecs showed life, winning at the final three positions, but it was too little, too late, as Oregon had already scored its fourth point.
Next weekend Oregon plays host to Washington State (Fri., 1:30 p.m.) and Washington (Sat., noon) at the Student Tennis Center for the first of two meetings. Next weekends matches will count for overall record but are non-conference matches. The teams meet later in the season with conference implications. Last season, Oregon split with Washington State and was defeated three times by nationally-ranked Washington, including a heartbreaking 4-3 loss in the second round of the NCAA Championships.
